SODELPA, one of the parties in the Fiji Coalition Government has said that neither the party nor their cabinet ministers have any issues with their changed portfolios.
Party General Secretary Viliame Takayawa stated that, while the party reaffirms its loyalty to the coalition government and the existing agreement, their primary concern is adhering to the party’s constitution.
In one of the recent changes made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to his cabinet, Radrodro was shifted to take on the iTaukei Affairs ministerial assignment, and Vasu began his duties in the Education portfolio yesterday
“The management board is the authority that gives the instructions to the ministers thus the need to convene the management board to comply with this provision. This is a constitutional compliance issue,” Takayawa said.
“The Management board will not recede their commitment to the coalition government, they are loyal to the coalition agreement.”
“We have to work backward now and move our management board meeting to forward because of the need to comply. We are different from other parties in that our management board makes decisions, not just one person. So, they will need to address this, as well as other matters, including the party’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).”
SODELPA’s working committee will be meeting next Wednesday to decide on the agenda for the board management meeting which will happen before the November Parliamentary session.
The Fiji Parliament is set to convene in mid-November.
