Fiji’s government reaffirms its commitment to the safety of 200 Fijians in Israel amid escalating conflict.
In a statement, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka expresses condolences for the suffering on both sides and confirms the Fijians’ safety.
Fiji Airways’ Tel Aviv flight is under review, and Fiji calls for a peaceful resolution and an end to hostilities in the region.
The 200 Fijians in Israel are part of a touring group to observe the Feast of the Tabernacle.
“The Government is in direct contact with the Fijians in Israel and can confirm that they are safe and accounted for,” Rabuka said.
“Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the conflict, we want to assure the families and loved ones of the 200 Fijians that their safety remains our utmost priority. We are closely monitoring the situation in Israel and are in regular communication with our citizens to provide them with any necessary support.”
The situation in the region has become increasingly volatile, with the Israeli army issuing evacuation orders to residents in several areas of the Gaza Strip in anticipation of retaliatory strikes against Hamas.
