Fiji has climbed two ranks, now securing their highest-ever position at seventh, in the most recent World Rugby ranking leading up to RWC2023.
This, after their historic 30-22 win over England at Twickenham on Sunday morning.
The Flying Fijians’ feat also sees them leapfrog England and Australia.
England finds themselves trailing Fiji by a mere third of a point, settling in at the eighth spot. Meanwhile, the Wallabies’ standing drops to ninth, matching their previous lowest position after their 17-41 loss to France, marking their fifth consecutive defeat.
On the flip side, France climbs a step to third, a position previously held by South Africa, who now advances to second. This shift follows South Africa’s dominant 35-7 victory over the All Blacks, marking a staggering 28-point deficit and the largest loss in the history of the All Blacks. As a consequence, the All Blacks drop to fourth in the rankings.
Fiji’s historic win against England not only boosts their own standing but also elevates Argentina to sixth place.
The RWC2023 starts at 7.15am on Saturday, September 9 (Fiji Time), featuring a Pool A showdown between hosts France and the All Blacks. Fiji’s campaign, however, begins at 7am on Monday, September 11 (FJT) against Wales. Both Fiji and Wales are placed in Pool C, alongside Australia, Georgia, and Portugal.
