Fiji Military Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai has confirmed the release of three Fijian soldiers who were detained by Israeli authorities on suspicion of drug smuggling.
The soldiers, who were serving with the Fiji Battalion under the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) mission in the Golan Heights, Syria, had returned from leave in Jordan on June 25 when they were detained at the Jordan-Israeli border.
They have now been cleared of these allegations and have returned to Camp Ziouani, the headquarters of the Fiji Battalion, to resume their duties, Kalouniwai said in a statement.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) also sent a team to investigate the allegations.
