Fijiana XVs to host Black Ferns A

June 21, 2023

Vodafone Fijiana 15s Head Coach Inoke Male has named a 100-plus extended squad, that includes players who voiced their concerns against the Fiji Rugby Union regarding payment issues after their recent tour of Australia, to prepare for a number of internationals later this year including a game against the Black Ferns A.

It is unclear when the game against the Black Ferns A will take place and where, but in a brief statement, the FRU said it would be held in Fiji after their two Test matches against Japan in September.

The Fijiana XVs will also be traveling to Dubai for the Women’s XV3 tournament starting on October 14. The draws for the Women’s XV3 tournament have not yet been released.

Meanwhile, included in Male’s extended squad as well, to compete for places against seasoned Fijiana XVs reps, are 30 high-performance unit (HPU) players and 21 players from the ANZ Marama Championship and the Royal Tea Ranadi competitions.

“We have some of the Fijiana players who are in our wider squad joining the Royal Fiji Navy, therefore, we will have the girls from the High-Performance training with us and providing stiff competition to those in the wider group,” Male said.

Nine overseas-based players, many of whom were part of the team which returned from the recent tour to Australia, during which they played a one-off Test against the Wallaroos, have also been included. Among the nine is Fijiana loosie and Australia-based Sera Ravatudei who featured for the Fijiana Drua in the Super W competition. Another overseas addition to the squad is Mere Kanace, based in New Zealand, who has played for Canterbury Rugby League Women in the NZ National Women’s Premiership.

The Daily Training Environment (DTE) programs in their respective High-Performance Centers (Suva, Sigatoka, and Nadi) start Monday and players have been requested to contact team manager Vela Naucukidi at +679 8311018 (WhatsApp, Viber) or email on vela.naucukidi@fijirugby.net for more details.
