Fiji 7s men and women have qualified for the Cup quarterfinals of the Hamilton Sevens tomorrow.
The men will play Argentina in their second Cup quarterfinal at 10.20 am whilst the Fijiana will play the US in the women’s second quarters clash at 8.52am.
The former qualified after having won all their pool matches, whilst the latter won two of their three games, losing to New Zealand.
Ben Golling’s men won over France 26-10, and accounted for Kenya 21-7, before coming from behind to beat series leaders Samoa 22-12 in their final pool match. Saiasi Fuli’s ladies defeated Great Britain 19-14 Great Britain, lost 0-27 to New Zealand then thumped Papua New Guinea 50-0 to book their spot in the Cup quarters.
Neither of the two coaches is taking tomorrow’s proceedings lightly, looking to make improvements on day two of the Hamilton 7s.
Gollings said: “We are [going] back and regroup, assess our performance…primarily we look at the way which we play and make sure that we control the ball.”
Fuli said: “It was a tough day one. We need to come back stronger, another day tomorrow. We are playing the US in the quarterfinal, another big game, we will go and recover and prep mentally and be ready for the [quarters].”
