Fijian Drua Mick Bryne is optimistic about the outcome on game day when they go head-to-head against the Rebels in a pre-season trial match next Saturday in Nadi.
The optimism stems from his assessment of the side, saying that they are much fitter when compared to their form around the same time last year when they made their debut in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
“We have been ready for a few weeks,” Bryne said, adding that the players were looking forward to testing themselves, and gauge their progress and readiness for the start of the 2023 season proper.
“It is a great opportunity for the players, and their attitude to turn up to do the work has been excellent.”
The two sides met at least three times last season with the Drua winning two of the outings – 28-26 in a warm-up match in early February 2022, and 31-26 in their round three match-up a month later which was also their first win in the 2022 season proper, before the Rebels proved their experience with a resounding 42-27 win in the return match in round six.
In terms of targets for the 2023 season, Bryne says they are in the competition to win, and are expecting to play in the final.
Scheduled for Saturday 28 January, the match kicks off at 3pm at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
