Fiji’s Pacific Games silver medallist Elenoa Vateitei has qualified for the finals of the Women’s V1 500m sprints after finishing first in her heat.
Vateitei who won silver in the 2019 PG in Samoa clocked about 10 seconds longer than her medal-winning form three years ago but was enough to score her a place in the finals.
The Namuka, Tailevu lass clocked 2 minutes 44.32 seconds to win heat one ahead of Norfolk’s Ada Neubauer, Northern Marianas’ Mayiah Duenas, New Caledonia’s Rosenelle Teruii, and Tara Cummings of Cook Islands.
Her male counterpart Clayton Horsfall has also qualified for the final, after finishing second in his heat with a time of 2.23.65, about three seconds behind New Caledonia’s Albert Mainquet.
The finals for both events are scheduled for later today.
Meanwhile, Fiji is currently third in the standings with a silver medal in tennis.
The women’s team of Ruby Coffin, Saoirse Breen, and Josephine Grace Debalevu finished second in the team competition behind PNG’s Apisah sisters Violet, Abigail, and Patricia.
