2000-plus arrests in 30 days

Fiji’s police have made more than 2000 arrests over breach of COVID-19  protocols in the last 30 days.

Since protocols were put in place due to the pandemic with the nationwide curfew beginning March 30, police have arrested around 2,322 people including juveniles.

The latest juvenile arrest involves a 16-year-old in Nadi for breach of curfew. He was found intoxicated along with a 43-year-old man, returning from a social gathering in Namaka. He was one of 10 people arrested on day 30 of police operations between 10pm Tuesday April 28 and 5am today. He was also one of five people arrested in the West on the night; with the other arrests recorded in the southern division of one and four in the eastern division.
